Hi Thiri, I think many North Americans do enjoy your food - in Chiang Mai a bunch of us often eat at Burmese restaurants for tea leaf salads and delicious soups. The street food was fun as well, with the fried beh fritters and naan for breakfast at tea shops. Thank you for reading!

Hey Jodi, Thanks for this post. Must have referred to it more than a dozen times now. I miss Burmese soups, and you. Not necessarily in that order. Safe and happy travels.

I'm really feelin that first soup with those awesome bean fritters and cazy herbage. The prices are awesomely cheap, my wallet usually runs out of money before my stomach runs out of space, however in Burma I'm afraid I might be eating 6 or 7 bowls per meal... Great post Jodi!

Thanks for the comments everyone! Those who have travelled with me know that I will drag everyone around me to some far flug town to try a new food, so it made sense to start documenting Burma's great soups - especially given the bad rap that Burmese food seems to get. Their fermented tea leaf salads, khao swey noodles with crunchy fried garlic and myriad of dishes made with tofu or chickpea flour make their cuisine very different to Thailand or Cambodia, and it was lots of fun to explore all the street food that the country had to offer.

Jen:perhaps post on the Chowhound GTA forum? If you find one, let me know - I'll be back in Canadia this summer!
