Wow, wonderful place. I live in Batam, Indonesia. Where everyday is beautiful-tropical-day for me. We are in South East Asia given exotic beach, including “wow”-sunrise and sunset as gifts from God.

They were seriously fantastic. I’ve found them in Saigon too, though. So you don’t need to go to Mui Ne if you don’t want to! Bring wet wipes – you’ll need ‘em. ;)

I”ll give up everything to go back to Vietnam to have those tamarind crabs!! Those are two of my favorite food things …tamarind and crab! And this is the first time I’m hearing that they can be featured in the same dish! I wish I read your post 3 moths ago so we could have squeezed Mui Ne in our itinerary before leaving Vietnam.

I think some people don’t trust that the locals-only places will be ok for their stomachs, so they’d rather a place vetted by other tourists instead? To each their own but I can see how newer travelers would be wary of locals-only places, even if they’re usually quite delicious and safe with fast turnover.

Nice eclectic array of observations, Jodi. But I must say, I’m genuinely surprised that folks reacted so to see you there slurping soup amid a crowd of locals. I thought everyone knew that – throughout the world – the best places to eat are always those filled with the locals (not tourists!)

In any case, glad to see you’re getting out of the city at least a bit. g-knows I’ve been here in Vietnam more than a year now, and I’ve only but scratched the surface of the many and varied corners (and eats!) of this wondrous country!
