Thailand declared a State of Emergency (SOE) here in Bangkok yesterday evening, and in light of the very alarmist headlines ricocheting around the globe, I wanted to post a short update about the situation here, as well as a media round up of more detailed coverage.
The red shirts took over Bangkok again this weekend, this time in the form of a Red March, a massive convoy of trucks, motorcycles and even a go-kart or two seeping through the streets of Bangkok. I registered myself in the press tent and then walked the streets taking photos as the convoy was preparing to leave.
This was no normal week in Bangkok. Having been in Thailand in 2008 when the yellow shirts shut down both of Bangkok’s airports, it was surreal to be smack in the middle of the red shirt political protests, yet feel as though I was at an intense, raucous festival.
